Tyreke Evans of the Sacramento Kings is the best rookie in the NBA so far
Tyreke Evans might not have dropped 55 points in a game like Brandon Jennings of the Bucks but he also is not shooting bricks at an alarming rate. Evans has played in 16 games (all starts) this season for the Kings and he is averaging 35.9 minutes, 19.3 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 1.3 steals per game. Evans is versatile enough to player either point guard or shooting guard which also has made him more valuable than Jennings to this point this year. In fact, Evans could even start at small forward if the Kings needed him to. Evans will win the Rookie of the Year Award if he can just stay healthy….remember you heard that here first.

Evans may end up with the ROY, but I think it will be because he is more durable than Jennings right now and not because he is better. Evans has much better size than Jennings and already has an NBA body, while Jennings is still growing and needs to get much stronger. Jennings struggles when teams are very physical with him as he is only 165 lbs. I think Jennings is the more talented player though, and I think he will have the better career as he is more of a true point guard/playmaker. Evans is more of a combo-guard and he doesn’t have the shooting or playmaking ability that Jennings has (even though Jennings has been in a shooting slump lately). Jennings will continue to get bigger and stronger as he gets older, while Evans has already peaked. So, although Evans may end up with the ROY award this year, I would still rather start my team with Jennings.
We agree to disagree. Evans is the better player so maybe we can look back at what we are writing now down the road and see who was right.
