The Sacramento Kings were happy with rookie Spencer Hawes this season

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Rookie Report by alleyoop on Wednesday 21 May 2008 at 12:54 am

Rookie center Spencer Hawes played well backing up Brad Miller this season. He played in 71 games (8 starts) for the Kings this season and he averaged 13.1 minutes, 4.7 points, 3.2 rebounds and 0.6 assists per game. Look for Hawes to start in the near future for the Kings as Brad Miller’s career is winding down.

Spencer Hawes looks like the center of the future for the Sacramento Kings

Spencer Hawes will have to bide his time behind Brad Miller who has been outstanding this season. Hawes has played in 50 games (0 starts) for the Kings this season and he is averaging 9.0 minutes, 3.4 points, 2.4 rebounds and 0.3 assists per game. He is shooting 45.6% from the floor and 75.8% from the free throw line this season. Hawes looks like the future starting center for the Kings as he has done a decent job as a backup this season.

The Sacramento Kings are waiting on Spencer Hawes to step up

The Kings would have no problem increasing rookie center Spencer Hawes playing time if he earns it. He has played in 22 games so far this season and he is averaging 9.3 mintues, 3.1 points, 2.3 rebounds and 0.2 assists per game. His problem has been his shooting as he’s only hitting 39.1% from the floor and that’s unacceptable for a player his size.

This grade could go higher as Justin Williams starts to make his mark.  F/C Williams played in 26 games this season and he averaged 12.8 minutes, 5.0 points, 4.4 rebounds and 0.1 assists per game.  G Quincy Douby was the 1st round pick last season and he had problems getting his butt off the bench.  He played in 42 games and he averaged 8.6 minutes, 2.8 points, 0.9 rebounds and 0.4 assists per game.

Rookie C/F Justin Williams gets his chance to shine for the Sacramento Kings

Rookie Justin Williams hasn’t gotten much playing time so far this season because of all the veterans ahead of him on the depth chart but they’ve been falling like flies.  It’s possible that Justin Williams will be thrusted into the starting lineup and get big minutes in the last couple of games in the season.  He has only played in 22 games this season (1 start) and he’s averaged 4.4 points, 4.0 rebounds and 0.1 assists per game.  He also has shot 61.5% from the floor so far this season which is outstanding.  Look for him to make the most of the minutes he gets on the court in the coming games.

Kings’ rookies not getting much playing time

The Kings haven’t been able to get their rookies much playing time.  Shooting guard Quincy Douby plays the same position as Kevin Martin so he’s out of luck.  Douby has played in 26 games and he’s averaging 6.9 minutes, 2.3 points, 0.7 rebounds and 0.3 assists.  He’s only shooting 39.7% from the floor.

Forward/Center Justin Williams is caught in a numbers game in Sacramento as the Kings have a lot of veteran frontcourt players.  Williams has played in 5 games and is averaging 2.8 points and 3.8 rebounds.

Quincy Douby hasn’t got to play much at all so it’s been hard to evaluate him.  Douby has only played in 5 games and has averaged 4.0 minutes, 1.8 points and 0.8 rebounds per game so far this season.  Douby has the reputation as a scorer, so keep an eye on him.
